Event Description

Graciously hosted by Head of Strings Jo Cole and the Royal Academy of Music, this tribute to the legendary teacher Jane Cowan and her pioneering work at the International Cello Centre will feature commentary and stories from Steven Isserlis, Steven Doane, David Waterman, Charles Medlam, family members and other former pupils. Included in the afternoon will be opportunities for questions from the audience, and a discussion of Jane’s unique musical vision and her priorities as a musician and pedagogue.

The afternoon will include performances of some of Jane’s wonderful arrangements for “cello club” at the Centre, played by Royal Academy of Music cello pupils. Excerpts from a film about Jane Cowan’s work in the 1980s will be shown as well.

This promises to be a wonderful afternoon of memories and celebration of the legacy of a great musician and teacher.

The London Cello Society is indebted to the Royal Academy of Music and to the artists and family members for their participation in this tribute. We thank you for your generosity and good will.
